RS-485 Network Controller

The CommStar CS308 is a powerful, programmable, real time scheduler and event manager.  It includes support for STARGATE and CommStar RS-485 network devices.

Programming features include:

• Real Time Clock/Calendar with Battery Backup
• 1000 Schedule Events
• 256 IF/THEN/ELSE Macros
• 256 Variables
• 32 Defined Timers
• 'Unlimited' Delay Timers (depends on available memory)
• Status LEDs

Aux. Buss Expansion Port

Aux. bus supports the IR-XP2 InfraRed Xpander.  This allows bi-directional Infrared (IR) control.  Not only can the IR-XP2 issue IR codes stored in it's memory, but it can also respond to received IR to "trigger" other actions.

OnQ ALC Switch port

Supports 31 OnQ ALC light switches and dimmers.

RS-485 Network:

The CS308 includes an internal 8 channel RS-485 hub.  Each RS-485 port is 4 wire, 2 for data, 2 for power.  The CS308's built-in supply can provide power to 12VDC network devices, up to 800ma total.  This is a half-duplex network that can be 4000 ft in length, and operates at 9600 baud.

RS-485 Expansion:

An external Model 8AH485, 8 channel RS-485 star wiring hubs can be connected to the internal RS485 ports.  This allows home run wiring for RS-485 network devices.  Additional 8 channel hubs can be connected for a total of 64 RS-485 channels.

Network Peripherals:

The CS308 RS-485 network controls Keypads, Thermostats, Zone Controls, Sensors, Relay Xpanders and other specified RS-485 network devices.

The CS308 has built-in support for:

• 32 - Thermostats/sensors
• 16 - LED Keypads
• 16 - LCD-96M Keypads
• 16 - 8 Channel Relay Control Units

WinEVM PC Host Software:

Included with the CS308 is the powerful PC Windows based WinEVM software.  WinEVM provides for setup and control of the CS308 and network devices.  This allows the creation of an integrated network of devices and subsystems via schedules and IF/THEN/ELSE events.  Once created on a PC, these schedules are downloaded into the CS308 program memory.  While not required to run the CS308, WinEVM can remain connected to the CS308 to monitor and directly control the network from the PC.
